In March, Stuyvesant launched its Natural and Cultural Resources Inventory (NRI), a professionally guided project to identify, map, and describe the town’s most significant natural, historic, scenic, and recreational resources. The final products will include a document and online map viewer that will provide our town with the information it needs to protect critical lands and preserve our rural character for generations to come.
Going forward there will be many opportunities to be involved in this effort, but today we are announcing a contest to collect photos for the final report. We are looking for visually interesting images from Stuyvesant. These might include landscapes in different seasons, flora, fauna, historic old photos, modern pictures of historic places, agriculture (animals and crops), and people. These pictures will make the report a readable document that is more than just text and maps.
Stuyvesant residents, Steven Taylor and Maria Ausherman, will gather, evaluate, and archive the photos, which must be submitted before Historic Stuyvesant Day on August 8th, when the winners will be announced.
Please send JPEGS, ideally 5 megapixels or larger in size, with the following information to maushe1841@hotmail.com:
- Photographer’s name and contact information

- Brief description
If you are going to send copies of historic photos, please make sure they are scanned at the highest rate possible. If you need help with the scanning, please contact Maria Ausherman for assistance.
