A State of Emergency is hereby declared for the entire Town of Stuyvesant, NY for a period of time beginning at 9:00am July 29, 2026 and continuing in effect for a period not to exceed five (5) days and ending on 9:00am on the date of July 30, 2026, .
The State of Emergency has been declared due to emergency conditions produced by: power outages, extreme flooding and wind damage throughout the Town. Such conditions threaten or imperil the public safety of the citizens of the municipality.
As Chief Executive of this municipality, Supervisor Knott has exercised his authority given to him under New York State Executive Law, Article 2-B, to preserve the Public Safety and hereby render all required and available assistance vital to the security, well-being, and health of the citizens of this community.
Supervisor Knott directs the following departments of the Town of Stuyvesant government, to wit, the Highway Department, Town Clerk, all Fire and Ambulance Companies and Districts to take whatever steps necessary to protect life and property, public infrastructure, and to take, implement, and render such other emergency assistance as deemed necessary.
- Travel restricted in defined areas;
- Procurement and acquisition of materials, equipment and services via standard bidding procedures is suspended;
- All mutual aid agreement remain in effect;
- Enter onto such private property for the purpose of temporarily storing debris and other storm related materials as is necessary.
A Countywide State of Emergency has also been declared by Chairman Matt Murrell effective 10am on July 29, 2026 and expiring at 7am on July 30, 2026 (unless extended or revoked). Along with this is a Travel Advisory for all roads.
Please also be advised that Start Route 9J has been closed as of 10:50am July 29th. Both lanes are closed in both directions between Day Road north to School House Road.
